Lyrak is a new app that wants to pay photographers

Lyrak

Lyrak is the latest app aiming to be one of the best Instagram alternatives. It’s a social media platform built for photographers and it has earning potential for its users.

Lyrak, a new Instagram alternative

The app's CEO, Rishi Siva, told Them Frames that the platform will share 50% of ad revenue with photographers. How much that will be exactly largely depends on how many accounts see your images.

Siva says, “When you post original content, you automatically receive 50% of the ad revenue generated from ads on your newsfeed and replies page”. He adds, “...growing your audience can increase your earning potential. Think of it as having a bigger storefront - more foot traffic means more potential customers”.

Lyrak will also allow photographers to sell prints and digital products, as well as obtain freelance work. “We [want to] offer multiple ways for photographers to earn money within the app,” says Siva.

The app is a photo only platform. This will no doubt appeal to those who have growing frustrations with Instagram’s emphasis on short-form video content.

Lyrak also has looser restrictions when it comes to the type of content you can post. Unlike on Instagram, you can post nude photography. However, Siva states, “Nude content isn't visible by default; users have to actively choose to enable it…we support artistic freedom while making sure people only see what they're comfortable with”.

A smooth transition

The app's user interface is not too dissimilar from the Instagram of yesteryear. With that, new Lyrak users should have no problems learning how to use the platform. Siva also states, “Users can customize their feed based on their interests and favorite creators.”

In the midst of a boom in AI imagery, many photographers worry about photo sharing sites using their images for machine learning. Siva explicitly told Them Frames, “We don't use photographers' work to train AI”.

Will Lyrak become one of the best social media for photographers? It’s too soon to tell. However, it’s nice to have another Instagram alternative thrown into the mix, as photographers aim to find a platform that puts them first.

Lyrak is available on iOS and Android. You can learn more by visiting the website.
