In today’s Apple event, the tech giant announced its latest flagship product; iPhone 16. Most of the announcement focused on the introduction of Apple Intelligence. However, there’s a noew camera feature that will be of interest to smartphone photographers - camera control.

New iPhone 16 Models

Apple has added a new dedicated camera control button to the iPhone 16, Plus and Pro models. It’s a multi use button. But, it’s the first time a dedicated button has been added to an iPhone that can act like a camera’s shutter button, potentially giving you a more classic camera experience.

A simple tap of the button activates your iPhone 16 camera. Tap it again, and it will take the photograph. However, that’s all it can do…

You can gently press the camera control button to bring up a range of features. A light tap can help you frame your photograph by bringing up its zoom functionality. Two gentle taps lets you access the aperture so you can play with depth of field and add more bokeh if you wish.

Although the camera control feature is new, those with an older iPhone model have long being able to set the volume button to serve as a camera shutter release. However, it didn’t have as much functionality as the latest hardware.

Costs of the iPhone 16 start at $799, iPhone 16 Plus at $899 and the iPhone 16 Pro at $999. It will be available September 20th.
