7 Gifts for Photographers: Treat Yourself or Someone Else
With so many cameras and accessories, it can be hard finding the right gifts for photographers. Then you have different tastes to consider. What’s the best gift for one photographer may not be the best for another. Luckily there are options that every photographer will appreciate and I’m sharing all of them.
Key Talking Points
The best gift for photographers are photography themed coffee mugs. They're inexpensive, stylish and can last a long time.
Investing in a photographer's education is a wonderful gift as it helps them progress their skillset.
Although buying a camera may seem like the perfect gift for a photographer, it’s important you do lots of research before splashing the cash.
Gifts for Photographers: Coffee Mugs
Coffee inspires ideas and is a great companion for photographers when editing photos.
That’s why coffee mugs make perfect gifts for photographers - Them Frames has a range of coffee mugs that we designed with photographers in mind.
We use long-lasting, durable materials, offering both enamel and ceramic options - built to give you the best coffee tasting experience. You can buy them directly from our store…
Gifts for Photographers: Camera Strap
Camera straps are an extra layer of protection for expensive cameras. They also make it easier to hold heavy gear. This makes them great gifts for photographers. There are many brands and styles of camera straps. Our favorites come from Peak Design - both the Peak Design Slide and the Peak Design Cuff camera straps.
Gifts for Photographers: Photo Editing Software
Photo editing software is a necessary expense in the modern era of photography. It tends to come at a monthly cost, but you can purchase annual gift card subscriptions for someone you want to make happy.
Adobe Lightroom offers discounts on annual plans. It’s the most popular editing software on the market - both with professionals and enthusiasts. If, however, you want more photo editing software options, you can check out my selection of the best Lightroom alternatives.
Gifts for Photographers: Photobook
Photobooks are a wonderful source of inspiration and education. Buying a photobook made by someone's favorite photographer will quickly put smiles across faces. You’ll have to do some digging - “so which photographers do you like” levels of detective work. Search for the photographer online and purchase one of their books. It’s a great gift idea for photographers.
Gifts for Photographers: Photography Masterclass
Photographer Masterclasses are cool gifts for photographers and they're going to help someone improve their knowledge and skill set.Thankfully, the internet offers easy access to teaching materials, helping new photographers improve their skills.
MasterClass has plenty of courses available from professional photographers like Annie Leibovitz, Jimmy Chin and several more. There's a subscription model but you can also purchase individual courses and gift them to someone.
Gifts for Photographers: Camera Bag
One of my favorite gift ideas for photographers is a camera bag. It can be stylish, convenient and help transport photography equipment safely. There are plenty of variants, including backpacks and over the shoulder bags.
My favorite backpack for photographers is the Nomatic McKinnon Cube Pack, as it’s both fashionable and lightweight. The professional photographer may prefer the Manfrotto Pro Light Frontloader M. It’s able to carry a range of cameras and lenses and has easy access points, making reaching for the camera quick and painless.
Unique Gifts for Photographers: Prints
One of the best gifts for photographers is printing their work. That’s because we are so accustomed to seeing images on a screen, that when we see the physical version, it comes as a pleasant surprise.
Prints are pretty inexpensive too, and if you have a budget you can get them framed. It taps into ego but also shows your photographer friend how good their images look in real life - much better than on a tiny screen.
Should You Buy Cameras?
The best gift for a photographer is a shiny new camera. Of course, compared to the options above they’re expensive. They’re also a tricky thing to choose. Photographers can be very particular about their cameras, and they can also be very loyal to specific brands. I have a selection of the best cameras for photography, but it’s all very subjective.
If you do want to buy someone their dream camera, do your homework first. Be subtle, perhaps ask “what would be a good camera for me?”. You can also be upfront and ask them what their dream camera is. Leave it for a little while and then surprise them.
But, do not just buy a camera blindly. Sure you can return them, but that’s a process you can do without.
Singing Off
You now have plenty of gift ideas for photographers. Remember, if it’s not for someone else, you can treat yourself - you’ve earned it.
You can’t go wrong with a photography coffee mug. The other options will also make a photographer happy, so don't wait any longer, make the investment and spread some joy. It will be worth it!
